An embarrassingly long time ago, I helped one of our friends/neighbors with design boards for their living and dining areas. They live in the same type of space as we do – an airy loft with concrete ceilings and a brick wall. This has to be one of my favorites boards yet – it’s masculine and a little moody but also bright and fun.
They have two small children, so it had to be kid-friendly (hello, big leather sectional and storage for toys), and they wanted a healthy dose of vintage pieces mixed with bright colors and modern elements too.
Here’s the living area…
Painting – already owned
Lamp bases – Target
Lamp shades – Freedom
Chair (top right) – Fashion for Home
Side board – MadsenModern on Etsy
Woven basket – Ballard Designs
Grey/cream trellis rug – Rugs USA
Indigo inkblot pillow – CB2
Orange block print pillow – CB2
Floor lamp – CB2
Leather sectional – Room & Board
Wicker ottoman – Overstock
Chevron rug – Rugs USA
Bar stool – Crate & Barrel
Trellis fabric for curtains – Waverly
Orange chairs – Urban Outfitters
Drum side table – Ballard Designs
The living area joins the dining area and a long hallway leading to the front door, so it all had to tie together well. This second board largely represents what they already owned – the awesome vintage light fixture, the table, the vintage fruit prints, glass doors and a lot of greenery. They just needed a couple of things to finish the space off, so that’s where I made suggestions.
Light fixture (already owned) – vintage from Modern CoOperative
Vintage prints (already owned)
Pendant lights – Lowe’s
Leather mirror – Zinc Door
Vases – CB2
Laura Canvas Print – Michelle Armas
Table – Crate & Barrel
Tolix Chairs – 1st Dibs
Wall color – Ben Moore Hale Navy
On a separate note, if you use Google Reader, you know it’s going away at the end of the month. If you still haven’t decided on a replacement reader, I can recommend Feedly. It’s pretty and not half as buggy as Google Reader was.
