Organizing the Big Boy Room

Organizing the Big Boy Room

When we moved from loft #1 to loft #2, we pretty much transported everything from Sebastian’s bedroom from one place to the other, even down to the paint colour. The new room was a similar size with the same concrete ceilings and pillars, except this one had windows (the first was an enclosed loft room) and hardwood floors. There was one other difference though – I organized the beejesus out of this one. Hurrah. Check out the closet. All the shelving was already there, so I just added bins, baskets… View Post

Update: DIY Upholstered Bed

Update: DIY Upholstered Bed

Remember the bed I upholstered for the little man back last year? Well, when we moved, I had to take bits of it apart so we could get it through the doorways. It was an easy process – I just pulled out the staples and peeled the fabric back around the corners so that I could get to the screws (and around the middle of the foot board, because that’s where the support beam is attached). It had been working out really well, but there were a couple of things… View Post

Ikea Hack: How to Upholster A Fjellse Bed Frame

UPDATE: Having lived with the upholstered Fjellse bed for over a year, there are a couple of minor things I would have done differently – read more about that here if you are planning your own DIY. The upholstered bed frame is finally done! Thanks to the joys of loft living, there is very little natural light in the room. The Big Boy Bed: We May Have A Winner

I was recently perusing Ikea Hackers when I stumbled upon this bed, which I rather love. {Manhattan Nest} And it started out as one of these: {Fjellse Bed Frame, Ikea – $49.99} $50 for the bed frame, a sheet of plywood, batting, fabric, a bunch of staples and a few screws and we may have ourselves a winner, people. My original plan was just to make a headboard with a basic metal mattress frame, but then I’d have to use a bed skirt, and I kinda hate them. I really… View Post

Chalk Board Frame

Chalk Board Frame

I still haven’t gotten round to painting S’s room. Or the bookcase. Neither have I finished beautifying my binders. Want to know why (apart from going on vacation)? Because I found this – the Ung Drill frame – at Ikea, and all my other projects went out the window. I marveled at it’s beauty for a second and then I realized I simply had to buy it and turn it into a chalk board. Obviously. The black plastic wasn’t doing it for me, so I pulled out my Zinsser Bullseye 123 Primer. It… View Post
