Mood Board: Dining and Living Room Design Plans

So we have a deal. J is allowed to buy some fancy (yet, in my humble opinion, unnecessary) computer thing and I am allowed my equally fancy (yet also not entirely necessary) Chesterfield! Woot! I’m not sure he really understands what he’s agreed to, but I’m going with it, and quick, before he changes his mind. In light of that, I’ve nailed down my dining and living room design plans for the new house. It’s long and narrow – similar to our last space, but without the staircase cutting into it. Our… View Post

The Floor Plan

The Floor Plan

I drew up a floor plan for this house before we’d even moved in, because I wanted to get an idea of how (and if) everything would fit. Here’s what we’re working with… It’s always a little enlightening to figure out what the exact square footage is…just a little under 900, which is even smaller than I thought (the listing said 1000). Gotta love London! I do think it’s plenty big enough for our family of four though, as long as we keep it organised and efficient. So far that’s… View Post

A Little Bit of English Country…in the City

My parents just put their house on the market, and it’s rather gorgeous. It’s an 18th century cottage very close to Salisbury city center and the cathedral. It’s spread over three floors. I had no idea but it’s actually about the same size as our condo – 1400 square feet versus our 1470. I always thought theirs was bigger, although I suppose it’s because we have a lot of our square footage tied up in walk-in closets and other storage (which I am definitely not complaining about). Our Floor Plan

Our Floor Plan

Here’s the floor plan of our current loft, so you can see what I’ve been working with this past year… Our first loft (more on that here) was about 1250 square feet, and this one is a little bigger at 1470. The layout flows much better than our old one did, and we have two proper bedrooms with windows (only our master had windows before). This is how we have it set up (although I may have taken a little liberty in prettifying the balcony and replaced the kids’ water… View Post

Trip Report: A Beach House on Bald Head Island

Last May, we rented a gorgeous little house right on the beach in North Carolina. The house is one of a pair of distinctive towers built near the harbor on Bald Head Island. I loved the colorful beachy style, and I’m sharing in case you do too! The house has been featured in architecture magazines and has won a few awards too. It’s three stories, with bedrooms on the top and bottom and a living area in the middle. The owners put an emphasis on bright, cheerful and affordable decor – a… View Post
