How to DIY a Waney/Live Edge Desk

How to DIY a Waney/Live Edge Desk

Our bedroom has built-in cabinets either side of a Velux window. They’re handy for storage, but they were a catch-all for clutter. I felt like they were crying out to be better utilised. I wanted to add a big piece of wood to the top and turn it into a desk and vanity area, ideally with a live edge (also called a waney edge), where the natural edge of the wood slab isn’t squared off. Naively, I thought it would be pretty straightforward – find wood, put on top. Done. Where… View Post

e-Design: A Vintage-Inspired Boys’ Bedroom

e-Design: A Vintage-Inspired Boys’ Bedroom

A couple of months ago, I did an e-Design for a shared boys’ bedroom. They’re the oldest two (age six and eight) in a family of five children. Their bedroom is big and bright, with a gorgeous fireplace and lovely high ceilings. It’s definitely been the biggest hassle of our whole One Room Challenge master bedroom makeover, but I think it’s going to be totally worth it. I’ve still got to sand and finish it, but there is at least a chance now that I will finish on time. Woot! I also finished the mid-century night… View Post

One Room Challenge Week 4: More Master Bedroom Progress (But Not Enough!)

One Room Challenge Posts: Week 1 / Week 2 / Week 3 / Week 4 (here!) / Week 5 / Reveal / Bonus: Desk My plan for this week was to show off my newly painted bedside cabinets, and/or my new live edge desk, but neither of those are happening. Womp womp. I should have been able to go and pick up the wood for the desk by now, being currently on day 12 of the company’s 7-10 day window for getting it cut to size. They’re currently ignoring me… View Post
