Our living room is where we spend most of our time, so that was my first project when we moved in. We started with a pair of pink chairs, which were about the only thing I loved in our old living room. I sold almost all our other living room furniture on Craigslist and put the proceeds aside for a redo.

I started with a mood board to make sure all my ideas would work cohesively, which was also very useful in explaining my plans to the Mr.

I’m a little bit enamored with turquoise at present, and I love it paired with pink. These gorgeous spaces served as my inspiration…

I needed a sofa that would complement the chairs. I really wanted something with clean lines and no poofy pillows at the back, since I would rather not dedicate my time to floofing the sofa at the end of every day. When I spied the Abbie sofa from Pier 1 Imports, I was smitten. Although you can’t tell from the design board, the chairs (which we also bought from Pier 1 a couple of years ago) are actually covered in a pink and taupe herringbone fabric, and the taupe sofa matched them perfectly. It’s also microfiber (read: very easy to keep clean) and super comfy.

The room is full of concrete and hard lines. I wanted to soften it up with lots of round edges – the mirror, the ottomans, the drum tables and the round dining table all achieve that.

One little note about the dining table – if I had an unlimited budget, I probably would go in a different direction, but this Ikea find picks up the dark wood of the end tables, expands to seat six, is round and easy on the wallet – our four main requirements for a dining table.

I plan to keep the greige wall color, since we are in a rental, but our landlord has said we can paint around the fireplace (the color in the design board is Benjamin Moore’s Bird’s Egg). The coffee table, bookshelf and throw pillows will probably be DIY projects – more on those later.

I’m in the midst of pulling everything together and it’s on the way to looking great – I’ll post photos of my progress soon.
