ORC Week 4 | More Master Bedroom Progress

My plan for this week was to show off my newly painted bedside cabinets, and/or my new live edge desk, but neither of those are happening. Womp womp.

I should have been able to go and pick up the wood for the desk by now, being currently on day 12 of the company’s 7-10 day window for getting it cut to size. They’re currently ignoring me and my pleas for information though, so presumably that means it’s still not ready. And I’m only part way through painting one of the two bedside cabinets, mostly because the kids are off school for half term.

Enough whinging though. Let’s talk about the progress I have made. Brace yourselves for some bad photos – I’m not getting anything done in daylight hours this week so this is the best I can do!

First up, I think I’ve finished faffing with the art on the dresser. My new painting is on the right, doing a wonderful job of looking thoroughly beautiful and hiding the awkward mirror attached to the wall behind it.

I need to find something to fill the big gold frame, possibly a black and white photograph.

You might notice the reflection of the new pendant shade. We had two weirdly placed ceiling lights in here, and now I just have one gloriously centered one! My Dad helped me with that last weekend (and by “helped me,” I mean did all of it himself).

Having wonky lights has been bugging me since we moved in – the other one hung in front of the closets and we hit our heads on it almost nightly. If we owned the house, I’d have the whole thing moved over properly, but this is a perfect solution for a rental and I’m so happy it’s in the middle now.

I knew I wanted something organic up there, and I do love this urchin shade, but I’ve also ordered a bigger woven shade, just to see if the scale is better.

I don’t have landlord permission to paint the doors, so they’re staying as-is. I’m okay with that though. The painter’s tape is still marking out where two frames will hang, but that’s waiting on hanging the mirror, which is waiting on the desk install.

I’m amassing quite the jungle of lovely plants, and hiding in the back there is my new lamp – the same one I fell for at Design Junction. I went to pick it up from the designer himself last week, and it’s perfect. It definitely deserves its own post! Obviously, I still need to straighten the doors on the built-in cupboards.

Finally, the fabric and trim arrived to make a long bolster pillow for the bed. The shibori is from this Etsy seller, and it’s so pretty. I probably could’ve had a go at the shibori thing myself, but I’m sure it wouldn’t have come out as lovely as this.

To Do List

I found the to-do list I made weeks ago, and frighteningly I’m not even half way through. Four projects done, five in progress (the ones in italics), seven still to do. With only two weeks left to reveal day, here’s what’s left:

Clean/declutter
– Decide on art
– Hang mirror on landing
– Desk lamp
– Hang art
– Refinish nightstands
– Decide on/arrange plants
– Pillow for bed
– Pendant shade
– Pillow for rattan chair
– Live edge desk
– Hang mirror
– Cabinet knobs
– Desk chair
– Bedside lamp shades
– Hang something over headboard?

Eeek. I was a lot more organised this time last ORC!

At least you have clean and declutter checked off your list, I count that as a WIN any day! Love the light! ~Sonya

I hope your wood piece arrives soon. I know how frustrating it is to wait on something especially when there's a short timeline. The fabric is so pretty. Look forward to seeing how the pillow turns out!
