Things are looking a little different around here, as you may have noticed. Living Pretty has had a makeover, and is now Emmerson and Fifteenth.
Here’s a little backstory, if you’re interested…
When I started blogging six years ago, I called my little corner of the interwebs Pretty City Things. My plan was to blog about decorating, DIY projects and living in Chicago. The name wasn’t terrible, but I felt like it pigeon-holed me. After a few long-since-deleted “Exploring Chicago” posts, I realised I really didn’t enjoy writing about the City Things part – the Pretty Things were very much where my passions lay. And anyway, what if we moved out of the city? That, and my Dad said it sounded like Pretty Sh***y Things (thanks father dear). So I switched it, admittedly without a huge amount of thought, to Living Pretty.
Living Pretty suited me better as a blogger, but it’s so generic. There’s a lovely tea shop in Somerset by the same name, and about five hundred variations of Living Pretty on Instagram. And of course, there’s Style Me Pretty Living, which is kind of a big deal. And probably a bunch of other Living Pretty related businesses that I don’t know about.
Why Emmerson and Fifteenth?
I wanted a change; something more meaningful. Why Emmerson & Fifteenth? Well, Emmerson is my maiden name, and Fifteenth is the street I lived on in Chicago when I started blogging. It’s where I got really into interiors. We lived in two lovely lofts on the same street – both in a converted meat packing factory. They had concrete ceilings, exposed brick and duct work, and massive floor to ceiling windows. Both spaces were amazing, inspirational places to live. They really made me think about my environment, and what an effect my surroundings have on me (and other people too), and that’s what really sparked my love of interior design. So I think Emmerson & Fifteenth is a much more fitting name, and I hope you agree!
I’ve moved my site from Blogger to WordPress, and I’m working on updates which should make everything easier to navigate, more efficient, and prettier. Right now, the new site still has a bunch of kinks, which I’m working on. If you spot anything funky, please give me a shout and I’ll fix it ASAP. Thanks so much for bearing with me while I straighten everything out and, as always, thanks for reading!
