The Little Man and I spent last weekend working on Christmas cards for the grandparents, and, since this might well be my one and only Christmas craft this year, I thought I’d share. (We’ve put the tree up and a few other decorations, but I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with how much I still have left to do in the two kids’ rooms that I’m going to keep my focus on those for now.)
I got the idea from this pin. First, the Little Man did some rather superb coloring using a brown marker on brown construction paper, then we traced his hand prints on the back, he did more coloring (because he wanted to), and we cut out the shape…
If you made the outlines a little thicker than your kiddo’s actual fingers, that would make for a less moose-y looking reindeer, but I chose to go truer to their actual shape because I’d like these cards to be keepsakes for the grandparents.
I decorated plain cards with scrapbook paper and ribbon, then added embellishments to the reindeer – marker hooves, scrapbook paper for the antlers and tails (although I love the pipe cleaners in the original pin, we were using what we had on hand already), brads or beads for the eyes, and ribbons for collars. We glued and/or taped it all together, then S “wrote” some heartfelt messages inside the cards. Voila.
